ICC T20 WORLD CUP 2012: Australia vs India –Preview

Australia and India two of the strongest teams in world cricket, will face-off tonight at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, in the Super Eights stage of the World T20 tournament.

Australia and India will clash for the first time in the tournament, with both teams starting 2-0 after fantastic wins in the early group stages.

India will be favourites to win after their historic performance against England in the group stage, smashing the boys from the UK by an incredible 90 runs and destroying their chances with crucial wickets by spinner Harbhajan Singh. Their performances in the group stage demonstrate what a great all-rounder team India is and perhaps labelling them the biggest threat of the tournament.

Australia defeat West Indies in the group stage – one of the most dominant batting teams in the tournament that have powerhouse Chris Gayle. Australia never fails to stick it out against tough batting sides and with their own great batsmen in David Warner, Shane Watson and veteran Mike Hussey – there is no doubt that tonight’s match will be a show stopper.

Skipper of the men in shimmering blue, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has reportedly given signs that he will go with five specialists bowlers in tonight’s match, resulting in India being down a batsmen. Either Yuvraj Singh or Virender Sehwag may have to sit out, which will be a difficult decision for leader Dhoni – Sehwag is an experienced batsman and Singh is a solid all rounder, however has struggled with the bat so far in the tournament.

We will see an arm wrestle between the bowlers from both sides tonight – the pitch 22-yards in distance will help India’s medium to slow bowlers, however fast bowlers from the men in green and gold will put Indian batsman under the pump with short-pitched deliveries.

The Aussie’s will benefit from Shane Watson a superb all-rounder who is in outstanding form, while India will be difficult to stop with Virat Kohli displaying the most scintillating performance’s in his T20 career.

Tonight’s match will be the first time the teams have met for a T20 match since February 2012, in which India won by eight wickets.
